That's a wrap on ACC!
This flurry of features over the last couple of days are the final ones I consider essential for ACC on racetrim.pro. This is not to say that the app can't be improved, or that there isn't a long list of features I could build. If you have feedback or ideas, please keep messaging me. I can still implement features, and will do so if anything compelling comes up. However, I am declaring racetrim.pro "good enough" to support the elite 😏 group of people who use it to run their ACC servers.
It has been a lot of fun to learn Clojure and build this app, but it pales in comparison to how fun it has been to see a community of racers form from its servers. All the racing, banter, and friendship that has grown here is super humbling and inspiring. Thank you to those of you that participate, and especially to the guys that help organize and make the place more fun than I ever could have!
Some of you know the personal struggles my family has gone through this year. My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer back in January, and she has had a whirlwind of surgeries, doctor appointments, chemotherapy, radiation, and more. Most of this app, and this obsession with sim racing, has been a coping mechanism and healthy distraction for me. A statement that through struggle, you can still build 💪. Many of the features of this app were conceptualized, designed, and built from medical waiting rooms. If you aren't impressed with the sterile, somewhat clinical, look of the whole thing -- well at least now you know why it is the way it is. 😉 My wife is doing well, cancer free as far as we know 🙏, and coming to an end of her active cancer treatments. That means I'm heading back to full-time work in the new year, and should be able to afford running this app for a while more 💸 😁. Please continue to use it, let me know what you like and what you want. When there is time and motivation, I have ideas to expand racetrim to another game or experiment with how servers are billed. If you read my community updates, you know this app is not infinitely financially sustainable, but I know good things take time and that sticking with a problem longer than others would, may unlock the idea, insight, or innovation that leads to a win. I'm on the lookout for something in this space that sim racers need, enjoy, and can use to make their game more than a game. Thanks to all of you for helping me search.
